LEST WE FORGET…
Candlelight is a contemporary folk song. The characters in the song are fictitious – straight from Finn’s imagination. Although the scenarios faced by the characters are also imagined, it is hoped they have enough credibility to tell a story, move the listener and above all commemorate those who suffered in the Holocaust and other tragedies, lest we forget.
To honour those who didn’t make it, as well as the few that did.

CANDLELIGHT LYRICS
We gathered wood by candlelight
Down the frozen winter track
Deceived, split-up and captured by
Those men dressed all in black
If it wasn’t for the candlelight
We’d both be free right now
Curse the rotten candlelight
What now?
Rolled down the railroad line
To a place with chimneys high
They took our threads and shaved our heads
And most were never seen again alive
A distant hum, the lights went out
And the bombs began to fall
Don’t worry said the tattoo man
I’ll get the lantern from the wall
And by the glow of that candlelight
He put a number on my arm
Looked me up and down then he said
Your life is charmed
Many souls were taken, don’t forget my friends
Although we’re in the present, heed the past
I don’t know how and I don’t know why
But The Lord he spared my life
And what became of you, my friend
Well I wonder all the time
So I light a candle now
And place it down on the track
I hope you find the candlelight
And your way back
So many years went by
Then one night I thought saw your face
Lit up by the candlelight
Well I nearly ran from that place
Don’t go, it’s really me, my friend
I saw the candlelight
It’s good to see you after all this time
I thought you’d be dead
We gather wood together everyday, now
And when the day turns into night
We give our thanks and praise The Lord
By candlelight
We gather wood together everyday, now
And when the day turns into night
We give our thanks and praise The Lord
By candlelight
