BIO – SHORT

Finn Ambers is an independent author, recording and performing music artist, composer and producer based in the U.K. His debut song, “A Part Of Me“, released on Friday 27th May, 2022.

In April 2022, Finn started out as a full-time independent creative entrepreneur. “I said to myself: ‘I know. I’ll be an author AND a recording and performing singer-songwriter AND a producer…and maybe a few other creative things to boot.’ I’m a dabbler and it’s in my nature to immerse myself in creative stuff – otherwise I’d go mad”.

Finn performs original songs and classic covers. His debut song ‘A Part Of Me‘ is a heart-felt ballad duet about love, loss and hope for the future. In June, 2022 ‘A Part Of Me’ was awarded a five-star rating and semi-finalist award in the UK Songwriting Contest and as of September 2022. Several of his other songs received a five-star rating and commended award in the 2022 contest.

Finn Ambers resides in the U.K. with his partner and two young children.

Finn Ambers is an independent author, recording and performing music artist, composer and producer based in the U.K. His debut song, “A Part Of Me“, released on Friday 27th May, 2022.

Finn started his creative journey at the young age of seven, thanks to his grandad’s gift of a ukulele. As a teen, twelve months of guitar lessons taught him the basics and within a few years he was joining and forming bands on the local scene in Lancashire culminating in gigs supporting Dodgy and The James Taylor Quartet. In 2005, the members of Finn’s final band went their separate ways, but in the background Finn kept on writing songs on guitar.

The novel-writing bug hit around 2006. In 2016, Finn published his debut sci-fi thriller.

In May 2022, Finn started out as a full-time independent creative entrepreneur. He decided to go into the final production stage of a song he’d been working on and release it independently. “I said to myself: ‘I know: I’ll be an author AND a recording and performing singer-songwriter AND a producer…and maybe a few other creative things to boot.’ I’m a dabbler and it’s in my nature to immerse myself in creative stuff – otherwise I’d go mad”.

Finn Ambers’ live show is a blend of vocals (likened to Tom Waits, Dylan, Nick Cave), acoustic guitar with strikes to the guitar body to generate percussive textures and beats. Bottleneck/slide technique, bass and looper pedals breathe an extra dimension to Finn’s performances which vary in genre and style: original compositions with classic covers from the 60s 70s 80s and 90s. Expect plenty of rock (& roll) standards with a sprinkling of folk, country, R&B, pop and ballad.

In November, 2022, Finn released his second single ‘Another Christmas‘, which also won a five-star commended rating in the UK Songwriting Contest (as did two of his other unpublished songs).

FINN ON HIS MUSIC

“When it comes to answering the question ‘what kind of music do you play?’, I’ve always struggled to come up with answer. These days, I write music mainly on the acoustic guitar which, I guess, colours the genre that is being composed to some extent. But to me, my compositions can be anything from pop to rock, folk and country. ‘A Part Of Me’ is an out-and-out ballad duet. But I’ve got a song on the backburner that sounds more mariachi-well-going towards what Calexico do. Then I’ve got this other up-tempo one which is a real foot-tapper, maybe country? I pity the poor guy who has to target a market for this music – wait a minute – that’s me!”

“I do have musical roots. My mother composed and performed her own poetry and folk songs. But well-before she picked up the guitar, her father (my grandad) surprised me one day. He plucked a ukulele banjo out of a cupboard and started playing songs like ‘Oh! Susannah’, ‘Yellow Rose of Texas’ and of course the George Formby tunes like ‘Leaning On A Lampost’. I really was blown away. I think he saw the glint of fascination in my eyes and shortly after he presented me with a ukulele, showed me a few chords and I was off. Recently, I learned from my father that his father played drums in a three-piece band. This was a revelation! I’ve always had rhythm. Always been tapping out beats and wondered where that came from.”
